A Summer of Abstract Art

June 17 - September 3, 2011

Four Minnesota artists express relationships between people and their environments through their paintings. Betsy Byers uses important geographical and visual memories for her reference material as she investigates the reciprocity between the self and its surroundings. Farida Hughes acts more like an observer, exploring group interactions and dynamics within particular spaces. Joan Malkerson’s work is about her own place in the world. She often works from objects and arranges them to create balance and composition in order to ascertain how she and her surroundings fit together. Patrick K. Pryor explores the expression of moments in time – using both the inner and outer worlds as reference.
